ATTRACTIONS OF CHAMPASAK

Champasak is a province in southwest Laos, adjacent to Thailand and Cambodia. This city is also the meeting place of two largest rivers of the city: Mekong River and Serve River. Champasak is a new city and it was built by the French in the early 20th century. This special city offers a peaceful and tranquil beauty. Tourists will fall in love with this charming city right in the first time coming here.

Wat Phou

Located at the base of mount Phu Kao in Champasak, Wat Phou is a ruined Khmer Hindu temple complex more than 1000 years old and was designated as a World Heritage Site in 2001 by UNESCO. Visitors will be amazed by the outstanding workmanship such as temple pillars, walls, lintels, pediments, shrine, library and palaces of the complex. There is mystical feeling walking through Wat Phou. Right at the entrance of the historical site is a museum, where preserves hundreds of precious exhibits of the pre-Angkor era. Every year in the third lunar month local people held an annual festival called Boun Wat Phou Champasak. Still, now, Wat Phou has become one of the places that remains the values of Lao history and culture.

Si Phan Don

Laos is the only country in Southeast Asia with no surface adjoining the sea but the special thing here is that Laos has an archipelago with more than 4,000 islands different. Si Phan Don in Lao means 4,000 islands. This place is blessed by the flow of the Mekong River, which has created an immense water area with 4,000 islands, forming a spectacular archipelago. Currently, the Si Phan Don Islands have become a popular tourist attraction with its beautiful scenery and fresh atmosphere. The most famous spot in the region of Si Phan Don is Khone Phapheng falls. Khone Phapheng waterfall is the largest waterfall in South Asia with the length of 12km. It is also known as Asian Niagara in Laos and one of the most beautiful natural landscape of Laos. The waterfall has an enormous amount of water filled with silt flows through a particularly large surface and many jagged cliffs.

Bolaven Plateau

The Bolaven plateau in southern Laos is always the most impressive destination for every tourist. With the year-round cool climate and fertile soil, Bolaven Plateau is a good place to grow many types of trees, especially tea, coffee, and rubber plantations. Other local products include fruit, cardamom, and rattan.The beauty of Bolevan Plateau also comes from a dozen of gentle waterfalls. Some famous waterfalls on this site are Tad Fane, tad Cham Pee and Tad Nam Tok Katamtok.
