summer, 1964

It's summer. The heat is somewhat unbearable, and more often than not, I find myself seeking refuge under trees, in shade, in bedrooms. Sweet lemonade is my morning companion, and ice is my best friend.

I don't mind spending time alone; in fact, I think it's quite healthy. Still, I do not know anyone in Alabama and I'm not the most outgoing gal out there. My car is finally here, so perhaps I'll drive to an art showing, sip iced coffee in a cafe, accompany my ghost to an afternoon ice cream cone. Lately, I feel as though I've only existed online and like.. the real Amber has disintegrated, or rather evaporated like the last drops of dew on the crisp grass, belonging only to the sun.. now wouldn't that be something..

I don't know how to explain it but this post is just beautiful...the words...the pictures...and yes that last picture of you is BREATHTAKING!!! If i was you i would print that out is seriously gorgeous!!!! Ah you got me dreaming of one day living somewhere nice and quite away from nyc....taking shade in trees sipping lemonade in hot sticky weather....God how I love summer and nature. Time to yourself is one of the most reflective and deliverating moments...I wish I had appreciated more because now I dont seem to have the time...cant wait till I have those moments again....

You have such a way with words, my dear. Your ability to describe things makes me feel as though I'm right there.
Those pictures of you are stunning.

I connected with this post so much as I feel like I'm in a similar spot. After returning from Australia to go home, I feel lost in my own home. I have no friends that I connect with and I live an hour away from my bf. You said it well when you said you only exist online, it is sad isn't it? Thanks for this post dearie, I feel like I'm not alone!

Beatifully written post, I really know how you feel. I too am not extremely outgoing, and do like to spend some time alone, but then as you say other times I do feel like I exist just online.

You inspire me to close down this damn computer and go to the park. I don't want the real me to disintegrate! That's a lovely, lovely colour on you, by the way. Have some iced tea for both us, please!

I'm only new to your blog Amber, so forgive me if there's a backstory that I've missed, but when you say "my ghost", are you talking about a real ghost, or are you being poetic? Because, if it's a real ghost, then I soooo want to hear that story!!

Oh, you really are such a sweet little thing you know that? I too have been spending much of my time alone, creating worlds and things. But I have a vacation from work very soon and plan on visiting old book shoppes and art galleries, afternoon cafes and all of those sorts. I will think of you and wish you were there my lovely.

Beautiful post, beautiful writing, beautiful look despite the heat!!! I lived in Savannah for a year so I know all about that tropical summer heat that is anything but "a day in the country" even if you're living in it ;- Congratulations on having wheels!

i am still so much in love with the way you write. i am in love with your outfit and your gorgeous hair in these pictures. i wish you luck while going out adventuring through town. it's always good to get away from the mundane, everyday routine. doing something spontaneous like going some place you've never been might surprise you in the fact that you might run into someone you never would have. be it a new friend or a companion. i love to explore. and i hope that you tell us all about it!!

happy sunday!

I would be so lost without lemonade in the summer. I don't think I would drink anything but water. And that would be a sad day.

I think it's incredible that you managed to find a dress that perfectly matches the color of your eyes. How beautiful.

You know what? I've often thought of summer as a lonely season because I'm an only child and I've never had the ability to just see my friends whenever I wanted, because I've never lived close to them. So I kind of understand where you're coming from. I hope you start feeling more like you fit very soon. Once you meet someone, they're sure to love you.

That sage green dress is such a perfect shade on you, and I adore the dreamy vibe of your photos. I imagine it must be very hot in Alabama right now, but lemonade sounds like the perfect way to refresh and cool down. xx

i have just moved back home again after uni and don't really have any friends here any more ~ most people have moved away. I am joining a creative writing group and a few craft groups though in the hope of being a bit sociable! i love spending time alone but also love meeting new people.

i agree that sometimes it's a struggle finding the right balance: blogging helps me rediscover myself, but too much internet time can cause the 'real' you to disappear too.

*hugs*

You've got such a beautiful way with words Amber Rose. Love this post. Change and new places can be a tad difficult. I speak from first hand experience. Perhaps doing a bit of volunteering or joining an arts group may help? Hope you're able to settle in soon dear.

Love your photos and the green of the dress against the grass and trees.

Also, would you believe I haven't had one glass of lemonade yet this summer? I know, for shame.

Aw you poor thing. I love being alone - but it gets to a point it just isn't fun anymore. You should definately go out to a show! Or a movie - you won't regret it.

I am also sending some aussie winter your way to cool down :) swwisshhhhh (that's the best winter sounding send I could come up with!)
